Sankhu "In Sankhu there are many signs of its former prosperity" Lonely Planet The village Sankhu once was an important trade post between Kathmanu and Lhasa. There are many remnants of the prosperous period between the 1300s-1500s. Also, there is a lot to be seen of the traditional Newari lifestyle, the largest population in this area. The traditions of the Newari go back centuries and live on in Sankhu. The village has many little streets and squares, where many shops and artefacts can be found. Together with a number of impressive temple complexes this makes Sankhu very much worthwhile to visit. You will get a taste of the real Nepal. Remember to check for any festivals during your stay which make for a most special experience.
- Vajarayogini. tempel is an easy 2 km hike lasting a 45 minutes from the bus parking lot and most enjoyable.
